Senate Select Committee on Housing Releases Report

Newsroom,

This morning, the Senate Select Committee on Housing released their much-anticipated report on Ohio’s housing crisis. The OTA commends the hard work of the committee and supports many of the recommendations, including allocation of funds to local governments to update their zoning and comprehensive plans and the Ohio Housing Toolkit.

We are concerned with the recommendation to increase the threshold for signatures to place a housing referendum on the ballot, as the township zoning referendum threshold was just increased from 8 to 15% in October 2023. There has not been enough time to adequately assess the impact of last year’s near doubling of the threshold.

We look forward to working with the members of the General Assembly on these and other recommendations as they work their way through the legislative process.
