FEMA Assistance for Local Governments

July 7, 2017

When there are federal disaster declarations issued for Ohio, the FEMA Public Assistance (PA) Program provides grants to local governments and state agencies for debris operations, emergency protective measures and infrastructure repair. In 2011, Ohio received a declaration for twenty-one (21) southern Ohio counties due to flooding and in 2012 received a declaration that impacted thirty-eight (38) Ohio counties.

In 2015, FEMA began a massive overhaul of how the PA program will be delivered. There are significant changes to how projects are formulated, to include a new project tracking system. I am encouraging you and your staff to enroll in this course so that you will be better prepared to administer the PA program the next time you apply for and receive a PA grant.

The link to enroll in the course is here.  Also there is a form and helpful hints guide for enrolling in the Department of Public Safety Training Campus.

Susan Traylor, Ohio EMA, Training, can also be contacted for assistance at sctraylor@dps.ohio.gov or 614-799-3666. If you have questions regarding the course or the PA program, please contact Laura Adcock, Ohio EMA, State Public Assistance Officer, at 614-799-3667 or ladcock@dps.ohio.gov.
